Cable Cutters

Cable Cutters are used to remotely sever wire ropes, data transmission cables, composite towing tethers, structural cables, and solid structural members. CAD Cable Cutters can be procured in a number of configurations, including removable anvil type to accommodate cables/members that are anchored on both ends. Electrical connections can be made via flying leads, standard connector shells, or fluid/environment-resistant cable assemblies. Mounting flanges can be incorporated to accommodate the customer’s specific requirements. Also, some designs can be supplied in a refurbishable configuration, and supported with a supply of refire kits. As with our other pyrotechnically powered devices, a small amount of electrical energy can liberate a large amount of chemical energy, and translate this to a large amount of mechanical work.

Applications:

  • On-Command severance of various data transmission, tow, or structural wires/cables, and solid members.
  • Release of hoisted/slung helicopter loads.
  • Release of damaged/snagged/fouled towed or tethered equipment and sensors.
  • Severance of immobilized/seized tools deployed on undersea vehicles (Manned or Remotely Operated).

Performance: Cutting capacities from 1/16″ to 5″ diameter.

Materials Cut: Fiber Optics; Stainless Steel Wire Rope; Armored Composite Tether; Steel, Stainless Steel, Titanium, etc. Structural Members
